LJN Nutrition was founded in 2017 on the basis of providing better and more accessible nutritional care.
I knew from experience that there were, and unfortunately still are, far too many struggling people left behind by our expensive, under-staffed and overwhelmed healthcare system. Having experience working in the standard systems of nutrition care provided in many hospitals and eating disorder treatment centers, I knew it could be done better.
How am I different?
I focus on a collaborative partnership instead of a hierarchy, trusting that my role is to help you achieve the goals that are most important to you. I provide my expertise concerning the areas of your health that matter to you.
I take my time. Unburdened by the constraints of billing insurance or a heavy patient load, we devise a plan of support that makes sense for you. Time for you to talk and for me to listen is critical to achieving your desired outcomes.
I meet you where you are. Whether virtual or in-person, session format is flexible based on what is helpful and convenient for you.
I utilize a wide array of evidence-based interventions to support you on your journey. I do not take a one-size-fits-all approach. Supports may include but are not limited to: increased session frequency, adapted session length, different counseling methodological approaches, use of dietary supplements or functional foods to support outcomes, test results to monitor progress of interventions, nutrigenomics, medically-appropriate dietary patterns that shift as your health and physiology shift, home work assignments in between sessions, digital monitoring systems, etc.
I understand the vital importance of communicating regularly with your other healthcare providers, to ensure that there is seamless coordination of holistic care (always with client permission). I convey when something is outside my scope of practice and refer you towards other like-minded providers.
I focus on your habits, behaviors and most relevant, evidence-based metrics, not on your weight. While weight can be correlated at times with health status, it is not, and never should be, used as the guiding, primary metric of determining health. I contextualize your weight history with many often more important metrics to ensure we are headed in the direction of a healthier, happier you.
So many health conditions or concerns can improve with good nutrition and support and so I actively seek out additional training to ensure I am providing the most up-to-date nutrition guidance for many conditions and concerns: heart disease, type I and II diabetes, autoimmune disorders, PCOS, cancer, etc. My passion is eating disorder care (BED, ARFID, Anorexia, Bulimia, OSFED, etc.). Because the right kind of support can be life-saving when it comes to eating disorders and treatment is often very expensive, I find this to be the most rewarding work. I am patient, kind and encouraging. I call you out when necessary. When we work together, I am invested in your journey.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I do not take insurance at this time but I make a great effort to ensure access to my services if motivation and need are present.
I never want cost to be the primary barrier. Ever.
Send me a message on the contact page to set up a 15 minute intro call for further information. It is very important to me that we are a good fit.
Warmly,
Laura
*Please note: I often have a waiting list, particularly if an evening meeting time is required; I will keep you informed to the best of my ability regarding when our work together can start.
